Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Dykes Ventures LLC ("we", "us") for the Hunting Public app and the huntingpublic.app website. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Using the app

Hunting Public is a free public-land e-scouting tool. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it. You are responsible for the device you use it on and for any data costs your carrier charges.

Accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• Give accurate information, and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
• One account per person. We may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the service.
• You can also use the app as a guest, without an account.

Acceptable use

• Do not use the app for anything illegal, or to trespass, harass or endanger anyone.
• Do not try to break, overload, scrape or bypass limits on the service, or interfere with other people's use of it.
• Do not resell the app or pass it off as your own product. The government datasets we use are public domain, but the app itself, its name and the data extracts it ships are ours.
• Knowing and following hunting laws — licences, seasons, limits, access rules and land ownership — is your responsibility, not the app's.

Subscriptions and cancellation

• The supporter subscription is $20 per year (USD), billed and managed by Stripe.
• It renews automatically each year until you cancel. You can cancel any time in the app (Supporter → Manage subscription), which opens Stripe's billing portal, or by emailing us.
• When you cancel, supporter features stay on until the end of the year you paid for, and no further charges are made.
• Except where the law requires otherwise, fees already paid are not refunded for a partial period. If you think a charge is wrong, email us and we will sort it out.
• If the price changes, we will tell you before the next renewal; you can cancel first.

Safety and accuracy

• The app's boundaries, ownership and access information come from public datasets such as PAD-US that can be incomplete, generalized or out of date. The app itself labels them: "Estimates · verify current rules before hunting."
• Before you hunt, verify the current regulations, season dates, limits and land ownership with the managing agency (state wildlife agency, USFS, BLM, refuge, or the private landowner).
• Device location, GPS accuracy and the legal-shooting-light times can be wrong, especially with no signal or a coarse fix. Never rely on this app as your only navigation or safety tool. In an emergency, call 911.
• We are not affiliated with, and nothing here is endorsed by, any government agency. See Data Sources for exactly where every map layer and regulation comes from, with a direct link to the issuing agency.

No warranty

The app and its data are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. Data may be incomplete, incorrect, or unavailable, and the service may change or stop at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dykes Ventures LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, lost data, or injuries arising out of your use of (or inability to use) the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $20. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the current version always lives at this address with the effective date above. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes belong in the state or federal courts located in Louisiana.
